Bird Celtic Knot by Zulma-san Bird Celtic Knot by Zulma-san
So this bird comes from the folio 2R of the Book of Kells.
I am teaching myself Celtic knots technique and this one turned out nicely.

This was also the opportunity for me to play with color tones. I am in the process of creating color palette based on pictures I have taken. The hues used for this knot were based on a picture taken at the beginning of the fall around a lake, hence the green which is not as bright and the soft ocher and yellow. I found that the tones were matching well with the Celtic style.

Knot done 100% by hand and digital coloring.

I had a hard time decided which category to put that drawing in...any recommendation?

Feel free to comment. I  comments! ^^

Nicely done. I usually put mine under "abstract" because nothing else seems to fit well enough, but then I've not done any with animals yet.

Wooow !

Very impressive. Nice color scheme! I always adore animal knots. It's hard to work them out and make them distinguishable keeping their Celtic character at the same time. You did great work on this one!

Thank you very much.
Animal knots (and Celtic knots) in general can be quite tricky.

Wow! This is great! I've always kind of been drawn to those Celtic or old medieval style tapestry things!

So you you drew this right? By hand? Then uplaoded it and coloured it digitally?

Thank you! ^^

I am fascinated by Celtic knots and I decided to learn how to make them properly.

Yes I did the drawing by hand. First pencil then black inking.
Then I put it on my computer and did the colors.

Mhmm, I was considering learning some caligraphy, but I havn't got the proper ink or nibs, so...

Ahhh. That's how I though, but I wasn't too sure. I might take a lesson from you and try it one day! :)

Hehe... the technique is somewhat simple for Celtic knots: you work with grids that guides you.
Sure, just let me know when! ;) But beware I am no expert!! :)

Yeah! I'll tell you for sure...actually that might be something to work on! I've had a block and havn't uploaded anything in a long time, so a Celtic knot might be my next inspiration! ^^

Thank you very much.

Same for me. I love those motives and I was trying to draw some without method and they always looked crooked.
Then someone lent me that book: Knotwork, the secret method of the scribes by Aidan Meehan, which I recommend.
This is a good starting base using the grid method.
But I am sure there a lot of other great books on the subject! ^^
